Design Collection Silesian Museum In Katowice

The project to create a new museum collection, which was launched and scheduled in 2020, aims to take hold of the current proposals of unique design and industrial design on a regional – national – European – and global scale. The project stems from the need to think about a broad, holistic view of the artistic culture of our time, which pulsates with various aesthetic tendencies and the works of diverse personalities. In the view of design after 1990, interior furnishings (from furniture to lighting) as well as ceramics, glass and jewellery have become the focal point. However, we should not forget other fields of creative activity, such as graphic design or fashion.

The schedule of events accompanying the creation of the new collection includes exhibitions and scientific conferences, as well as lectures, workshops, thematic sessions, and promotions of interesting publications.

In the process of expanding the potential of the Silesian Museum’s design collection, the ambitions of the curators are facing financial obstacles. This makes it all the more valuable for us to receive donations from designers, manufacturers and patrons who are willing to contribute to the implementation of a project of such major importance to both Polish and global cultural heritage.

 ANTROPO Chair
designed by Wojciech Mierzwa, 2021
made by Sculptur, Karlshamn, Sweden
3D printing (LSAM)
material: DuraSense (contains 51% wood fibre), 100% recyclable

The smooth lines and a circular profile refer to a closed loop philosophy. The elasticity of the biocomposite as well as its smell and ergonomics all create a modern and environmentally friendly piece of furniture.

DUNE Chair
designed & made by: Cyryl Zakrzewski, 2017
birch plywood, natural oil

Nature is still a source of vibrant inspiration – this design is reminiscent of the movements of sand dunes and carries the impression of constantly pouring sand. A piece of furniture that integrates the fields of design and sculpture.

ULTRALEGGERA Chair (RAW version)
designed by Oskar Zięta, 2019
made by Zieta Studio, Wrocław – Zielona Góra
FiDU technology, laser cutting, aluminium, 100% recyclable

As the lightest chair in the world at the moment (with a weight of 1,660 g and load of 1,208 kg), it is a response to Gio Ponti’s iconic Superleggera from 1957. Thanks to its minimalist form, the design lends itself well to any space.
