Pieter van Os

Circo

Pieter is specialised in early phase marketing which encloses proposition development for bringing new products and services to the market. After a successful period as consultant and entrepreneur in telecommunications, he chose in 2005 (before Al Gore) to apply his skills and experience in the field of sustainability. Bringing products and services to the market that are more efficient with materials and energy.

In that role he is one of the initiators of the Circo programme that started in 2015 in the Netherlands. Circo is a circular design methodology that so far guided over 350 companies to develop a circular proposition including a business model, product (re)design and complementary services and processes. Next to that over 250 industrial designers and architects are trained in the methodology to become a circular change agent. Pieter has been responsible for developing and rolling-out the methodology and has personally trained 200 companies. Currently he is responsible for the Circo international programme making the circular methodology, cases and learnings available to the international designer and business community. I’m honoured to share this at 4DD.

Architecture for people and the Earth. Opening session

If sustainable architecture is a measure of the progress of civilisation and ecology has become a new cult of developed societies, where does this put us on the eve of the second decade of the 21st century? If architecture indeed impacts energy consumption, the scale of environmental pollution, in particular greenhouse gas emissions, what needs to be sacrificed to make a breakthrough? A fully ecological city, a friendly neighbourhood, zero energy buildings – will those ideas become popular on a global scale? The faces of architectural sustainability – what solutions will inspire us to use sustainable solutions in commercial and public buildings and create conditions for a better life and work?

    Creating business through circular design.

Circular economy offers many opportunities for companies. Designers are the ones that can facilitate the circular transition. How do you take a first relevant step to identify and work out these opportunities? The CIRCO design methodology helps companies and creative professionals to start circular business on a practical basis, under the motto "Creating business through circular design”.

During the mini-workshop the CIRCO methodology will be shared in a pressure cooker format. You are challenged to identify opportunities, apply circular business models and design strategies. You get triggered by interesting cases of companies and designers with similar questions and the experience of over 350 companies and 250 designers that joined CIRCO.
