To spotkanie z architektem Krzysztofem Ingardenem w 1987 r. stało się inspiracją do powstania dokumentu i będąca jego efektem przyjaźń oraz wieloletnia kreatywna współpraca. Zaowocowało to powstaniem emblematycznych już dla nowoczesnego projektowania w Polsce budynków, ze względu na swą innowacyjną formę będących obiektami kontrowersji w czasach, gdy powstawały – Centrum Sztuki i Techniki Japońskiej Manggha projektu Araty Isozakiego i Pawilonu Wyspiańskiego zaprojektowanego przez Krzysztofa Ingardena.
Andrzej Wajda przez lata ważną część swojej twórczej energii oddawał architekturze. Dokument jest próbą odwrócenia tej relacji – czyni architekturę materią dla filmu.
